Marlborough MA to mark Declaration of Independence with Williams Tavern event

Marlborough is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a tribute at the old Williams Tavern, according to a community announcement.
Williams Tavern was founded in 1665 near the eastern shore of what is today known as Williams Lake, according to the Marlborough Historical Society website. It is historically significant because it hosted George Washington on July 2, 1775, before he took command of the Continental Army at Cambridge.
The tavern building was demolished in 1947, according to the Historical Society’s website.
The local celebration will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16 at Marlborough Country Club, 200 Concord Road, according to the announcement.
Colonial-era food and entertainment
The event will feature colonial-era dishes including oysters, duck confit, pumpkin soup, johnny cakes, roast beef, ham, fish and turkey. Desserts will include Marlborough pie, Indian pudding, jams with sweet bread and ice cream made according to Thomas Jefferson’s recipe.
