Marcello Hernández prepares a comedy special on Netflix

“Saturday Night Live” star Marcello Hernández hosted his first-ever stand-up comedy special on Netflix.
The hour, titled “American Boy,” will air January 7. Filmed in front of a local crowd in Miami, the special sees Hernández reflect on his experiences growing up as a first-generation American.
“American Boy” is directed by Nicholaus Goossen and produced by Hernández and Matthew Vaughan. It is produced by Rotten Science.
Hernández, now 28, joined “SNL” in 2022 and quickly became one of the NBC sketch series’ rising stars. He is perhaps best known for playing Domingo in the oft-repeated musical sketches about a bride-to-be’s forbidden love affair. He also recently impersonated Sebastian Maniscalco, earning props from the comedian himself, and he often plays characters referencing his Cuban and Dominican heritage.
He starred as a Miami nightclub promoter showing the ropes to a dim-witted bouncer played by Jason Momoa. And he played the son of a protective mother played by a dressed-up Pedro Pascal.
Hernández recently appeared in “Happy Gilmore 2” alongside Adam Sandler, as well as Michelle Williams’ miniseries “Dying for Sex.” Next, he has voice roles in “Shrek 5” and “The Angry Birds Movie 3,” and he will appear in the Teyana Taylor and Kevin Hart comedy “72 Hours.”
In 2024, Hernández was one of VarietyThe Power of Young Hollywood Cover Stars. Listing inspirations Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart and Bernie Mac, he said: “I want to be as successful as those guys, but I’m going to be the Hispanic version. »
