Managers of Eastern Airport Iowa vocate concerns about a public service factory near the slopes

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (KCRG) – Eastern Iowa airport managers have said they are concerned about a possible alluring public service factory that could be built less than five kilometers from the main airport track.
The factory can be built in the area of 76th avenue in the southwest, just outside Fairfax.
The director of Marty LENSS airport said that he had discovered this possible factory last month.
On Monday morning, the airport commission approved a study of nearly $ 70,000 exploring potential impacts on airport operations.
“It was quickly obvious to us that, you know, it is really not the use of compatible land next to an airport,” said Marty Lenss, director of CID airport.
With a new, combining public service factory under construction just four kilometers from the main track, Lenss said he had some concerns.
The piles of the plant more than 250 feet high are only of its anxieties.
“The plumes that stand out from these batteries which cause certain meteorological environments will cause an improved fog and ultimately end up the airport operation,” said Lensss.
Lenss said CID has a category one approach system. This means that pilots cannot land in lower visibility conditions.
“In addition to the plume with a large battery like this, there is an incredible ascending air speed at different temperatures of the surrounding air. This air is very turbulent, right? So, another concern is, you know, if a plane … could strike this turbulent air,” he said.
Lenss said that another major concern is the third track that has been underway for some time.
This track would be less than two kilometers from the factory to its shortest length.
“Today, it is planned at 7,400 feet, which is a little more than a mile of the establishment,” he said.
And he said that if the roles were reversed, they would not plan to put an airport near a plant like this.
“The size and scale of what we are today, and this power plant existed today. So we have just returned this scenario. We would abandon the site immediately,” said Lensss.
He said, while technically the plant could adapt …
“Panache will be a problem. There is no question in my mind that will be a problem,” said Lensss. “It still doesn’t have a good idea.”
“We have worked so hard over the years as a commission to ensure that our airport has a lot of space to continue prospering and growing up and being safe. And in the end, you know, it really has become a red line for us. We really believe that this is not the wrong place to put a power plant, “said Barry Boyer, president of the CID airport commission.
Lenss said that another major concern was that the factory was built, it could in fact have an impact on the airport’s ability to compete for federal discretionary subsidies.
“You do not maintain your grant insurance. It is a federal requirement of each subsidy that we sign.
In a press release, combining said: “We are at the first stages of the site’s selection for a natural gas gas installation. Our site assessment includes the Big Cedar Industrial Center in Fairfax as a possible location. This is a region that we serve with the highest demand for energy and a historic site for production facilities.
This potential installation underlines the continuous commitment to combining Energy with a balanced energy approach which offers safe, reliable and profitable energy for customers thanks to the integration of traditional and renewable energy resources. As part of our regulations during the last Iowa rate review, we are committed to maintaining stable basic rates until the end of the decade. This proposed installation does not hinder this commitment.
Currently, we are working with the cities of Fairfax and Cedar Rapids and examine the compatibility of the installation offered with airport operations. We intend to work with the airport to provide the necessary information and continue to request their opinion as we do with local stakeholders on the site of the generation and the potential decisions of the site. Our calendar remains fluid to ensure that we can lead appropriate conversations with local communities and stakeholders. »»
Lenss said that Alliant planned to move forward with the Iowa Public Services Commission in October.
