This spicy, underrated comedy starring an Emily in Paris star will premiere on a new streamer next month

The 2020s blessed theaters with many raunchy comedy hits, from Jennifer LaurentIt’s uncomfortable but wild No hard feelings to the famous black comedy for teenagers Down with Rachel Sennot And Ayo Edebiri. Tower of joy originally premiered out of SXSW and immediately became a hit for its blend of chaotic, raunchy humor and heart. Currently, it holds a Certified Fresh 90% from critics and an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning major plaudits from, among others, the Oscar-winning film. Anora director Sean Baker. Collider Therese Lacson gave it a B+ in its review at the time, saying it was “not only full of ribald comedy, but it’s a wholesome story about friendship, which is the basis of these types of films.” Despite all the praise, Lim’s first R-rated adventure film failed to draw much of the audience into theaters and grossed just under half of its reported $32 million budget, with a worldwide box office haul of $15.8 million.

Park leads the film as Audrey, a rising lawyer at a prestigious law firm who has a chance of getting a promotion to partner if she flies to China and strikes a deal with a potential business partner (Ronny Chieng). To make the most of the trip, she brings along her longtime friend Lolo (Cola), her K-pop obsessed cousin Vanessa aka Deadeye (Wu), and, after an altercation in Beijing, her close college friend turned actress Kat (Hsu). Will “Joy Ride” ever have a sequel?
