Man Utd now chasing Conor Gallagher as INEOS position in race becomes clear

Manchester United are now said to be in pole position in the race to sign an England international this month.

The Red Devils could be in for a busy month as they look to secure a top-four finish and finally find some consistency under Ruben Amorim. INEOS have already fixed their manager’s attack this summer with an impressive overhaul and could now do the same to fix their midfield woes.
Speaking about the January transfer window, the Man United boss told reporters: “Sometimes I have one idea, Jason and the board have another. Every decision we make, we have to come to common ground.
“It’s really important because you don’t need to do everything for the manager because the manager can change and [then] we have to change everything.

It was an evening to forget for the Red Devils.
“But you also have to understand that the coach understands the way to play. If you can’t reach a common ground, the player won’t come, so we try to do that.”
On the transfer front, recent reports suggest that Man United will focus on their midfielder this month, but it remains to be seen who will arrive.
Players like Ruben Neves have reportedly emerged as serious options as he looks to leave Al-Hilal during the winter window. With a return to the Premier League being considered, United have reportedly contacted the Portuguese international’s agent.
He is not the only name on their shortlist, however. According to TeamTalk, Man United are now leading the race to sign Conor Gallagher, who is also looking to return to the Premier League this month.
Gallagher could replace Manuel Ugarte
It could be a case of in, out at Old Trafford. Recent reports have claimed that Galatasaray are prioritizing the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Man United this month, which would give the Red Devils the perfect opportunity to welcome Gallagher.
Although not a full-fledged replacement, the England international would instantly offer a lot more energy to the heart of Amorim’s team as well as key versatility.

Unlike other targets, Gallagher is unlikely to cost United dearly either. Atletico Madrid have reportedly priced their midfielder at just €30m (£26m) for the new year, which is more than affordable for INEOS.
What could be a problem is Gallagher’s salary demands. In Spain, the former Chelsea player earns around £151,000 per week, which would put him among Man United’s top 10 earners.
The Red Devils must decide whether they simply place high value on Gallagher in the January transfer window or wait until the summer to land players like Adam Wharton or Elliot Anderson.
