Man Utd news: “The game plan worked wonderfully” – reaction after victory over Liverpool

Harry Maguire’s late header secured Manchester United’s first victory at Anfield in almost a decade and inflicted that of Liverpool fourth consecutive defeat.
It was a resounding victory for Ruben Amorim’s side against their biggest rivals and the manager described it as ‘the biggest victory of my time at Manchester United’.
The back pages of Monday’s newspaper are testament to the magnitude of the result, which also gave United their first consecutive Premier League victory under the Portuguese’s management.
“Amorim have been under a lot of pressure, but now it’s back-to-back wins and they beat Liverpool,” Clinton Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast. “It’s a big win for United and it puts them top of the league.
“United’s front three had a lot of pace. They wanted to cause problems for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, and they did that. It was probably one of the only games where I thought Van Dijk looked shaken in the first half.
“That’s because United’s game plan worked wonderfully. They defended in numbers and were good on the counter-attack.
“They always come up against the big teams – we saw that last season – so now they have to turn out against Brighton next week.
“Whether they can do it remains a big question mark.”
