Man UTD 4-0 PSV: Elisabeth Terland marks the hat-trick while Marc Skinner approaches the Champions Qualifation League | Football news

The hat-trick of Elisabeth Terland propelled Manchester United a step forward in her qualification campaign in the Champions League with a dominant 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven.
The Norwegian international scored at the seventh, 53rd and 63rd minute in Stockholm, where Celin Bizet-Donnum also added a goal in the first half.
United, which finished third in the female super league last season, participated in the competition in this second semi-final of the qualification round, and will now face the winner of Hammarby vs Metalalist Kharkiv on Saturday.
The winners of this match enter the way to the third qualification league, while the losers will pass in the new UEFA Women’s Europa Cup.
United forced the PSV in an early error in their high press, allowing Lisa Naalsund to set up Terland for the opener.
The summer signature of Julia Zigiotti Olme then cut a post in the square pass of Terland, and there was a pair of chances for Ella Toone before the Norwegian striker had the ball again at the back of the net, recently excluded for the offside.
It was not long before United a second time, orchestrated by Bizet-Donnum, who won the ball before doing so to finally do it via the cross of Anna Samberg.
The initial shooting of the England midfielder was saved, but Bizet-Donnum was the fastest to react and raised the ball beyond goalkeeper Moon Biegel Esteves in the 32nd minute.
The PSV began the second half strongly before Terland was 3-0 after a more loose defense of the Dutch outfit made it possible to intervene and slide a perfectly weighted pass for the Norwegian striker to finish clinically.
Terland then caught his hat -trick and put the competition out of reach with an excellent finish after playing a two with Toone before launching the ball in front of Biegel Esteves.
Man Utd needs the Champions League to prove progress
Analysis by Sky Sports’ Laura Hunter:
Qualifications for the Clean Champions League have long been a mission of Manchester United – and remains a necessary part of their evolution under Marc Skinner.
They feel like they have made decent progress last year, but to continue to progress, to attract the best talents on the market and to mix it regularly with the best in WSL, they must participate in the elite competition of Europe.
There will be a certain relief after overcoming a potential banana skin in the PSV, which finished finalists in the Dutch league last year. But in the elaborate UEFA qualification process, United is still to win on Saturday, then between a third pawn qualification link in September.
If they go to the Champions League proper, it will be well won. And an important breakthrough in the club’s growing ambition to be seen among the leading teams of the game.
