Man pulls out gun inside Atlanta airport terminal and intentionally shoots himself, police say

Atlanta police said officers went to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
ATLANTA — A man was arrested Sunday after police say he intentionally shot himself inside the Atlanta airport terminal.
Atlanta police said officers went to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. During their investigation, police said Douglas Smith, 59, pulled out a handgun and intentionally shot himself in the upper left torso.
Police said the shooting happened near the baggage claim area after Smith reached the top of the escalator. He was charged with reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police said he was alert, conscious and breathing and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Atlanta police said airport operations have not been affected at this time. They posted the following press conference on their Facebook page:
