MAN OF STEEL Director Zack Snyder Shares New Photo of Henry Cavill’s ‘Pure’ Superman

After having made adaptations of comic books like 300 And Guardians (both of which had previously been described as “impossible” to adapt), Zack Snyder seemed perfectly suited to direct the 2013 Superman reboot, Man of Steel.
The DCEU movie still has its share of fans, but also some very controversial elements. The destruction of Metropolis, Superman’s inability to save innocent people, and the hero’s decision to kill General Zod are the main ones. Jonathan Kent’s death is another major sticking point.
Anyway, Henry Cavill played the role of Clark Kent in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice And Justice League. If Snyder could have told the story he wanted in a trilogy for this latest franchise, we would have seen Supes fall under Darkseid’s control before ultimately finding redemption.
Snyder’s plans for Superman didn’t come to fruition, but Cavill returned to the DCEU in Black AdamThe post-credits scene of. He also filmed an appearance for The lightningwho ended up in the editing room when DC Studios was created and the decision was made to start a new Man of Tomorrow for James Gunn’s DCU.
Snyder, who recently joined Instagram, continues to share never-before-seen DCEU photos from the films he worked on. Today is a Polaroid photo of Cavill’s Superman in Man of Steelas the filmmaker captioned, “I love this photo…it’s pure Superman.”
Yet is this the case? Cavill certainly looks quite imposing here, but there’s nothing particularly joyful or hopeful about this image. It was the kinder, much more positive interpretation of this character that made Superman such a success when it hit theaters this summer.
“It’s terrible” Gunn has previously spoken out about Cavill’s unceremonious DCEU exit. “Believe it or not, the day we were trying to figure out if we could take the job at DC Studios, the day the deal was done, all of a sudden they announced that Henry was back. And I was like, ‘What’s going on? We know what the plan is. The plan was to go in and do ‘Superman.’ It was really unfair to him and a total disappointment.”
“There was a void at the time and a lot of people were… They had a vision of what they wanted to do in DC and they were trying to make their way and that was never part of the equation for [WBD CEO] David Zaslav,” he continued. “We walked in and it was really unfortunate. I’m like, ‘This poor guy.'” Gunn later added that he “I would love to” to give Cavill a different role and claimed to have spoken to him about it.
