Man City could sell Mateo Kovacic

Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic is seen as a target for a number of clubs in the Premier League and beyond.
As first reported here in my Daily Briefing exclusive, Kovacic is not in talks to sign a new contract with Man City, and the club are expected to be open to offers to let him leave.
The experienced Croatia international no longer plays regularly for City and he could get the chance to play more at West Ham or Aston Villa.
These two clubs are currently among his suitors, according to my sources, although there is a feeling that AC Milan could lead the race for his signature.
Will Mateo Kovacic leave Manchester City for AC Milan?
It is suggested that Kovacic may be keen to reunite with compatriot Luka Modric at San Siro, but nothing has been said yet on that situation.
In all likelihood, Kovacic will leave the Etihad Stadium soon.
“There are no ongoing discussions about a new contract for Kovacic at City,” one source, who asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships, told me.
“It is likely that City will be receptive to offers in January. Milan in particular are eyeing this opportunity to accelerate their move.
“West Ham and Aston Villa are also interested, but less advanced at the moment. Ditto for Villarreal and Real Betis,” they added.
City now have other options in midfield, with Kovacic sliding down the pecking order and surely looking surplus to requirements.
It surely makes sense for all parties involved if the 31-year-old leaves City in January, and it seems clear that he will have no shortage of options when it comes to choosing a new club.
