Mal Meninga: The legend of the Rugby League appointed the head coach of the LNR Perth Bears extension club | Rugby League news

The head coach of Australia and ex-Kangaroos and the star of the origin of Queensland, Mal Meninga, were revealed as an inaugural head coach of the Perth Bears.

Meninga, 64, signed a three -year contract with the new franchise, which means that he could be 69 years old when his contract expires in 2030.

He has been in charge of the international team for eight years, winning home victories in the World Cup in 2017 and 2022. However, this means that he will not be in charge for this ASHES Fall series in England.

The head coach of Leeds Rhinos, Brad Arthur, and the head coach of the Warrington Wolves, Sam Burgess, would also be in the running for the position.

We do not yet know who will succeed Meninga for the kangaroos while he takes care of the club rugby for the first time since 2001.

Meninga is one of the most decorated players and coaches in the history of the Rugby League, after having trained Canberra (1997-2001) and Queensland (2006-2015) after playing 46 trial and world cup games for the Kangaroos of Australia, 32 games of origin for Queensland and captain with three national titles.

Before becoming Kangaroos coach in 2016, Meninga led the Martons du Queensland to their most successful period in the history of the origin, winning nine in his series 10 in charge.

“It’s bigger than me,” Meninga said on Friday. “This new pioneering adventure on WA (Australia -Western) and the opportunity to be involved in the growth of the game, to develop a club – The Perth Bears – is too beautiful to refuse. I feel very honored, very nervous, and I think it is a huge responsibility.”

The first sport competition was born in Sydney, but developed to include a team in New Zealand, a team from the Australian capital, Canberra, a team from the capital of Victoria State, Melbourne and four teams in the State of Queensland.

Perth Bears will enter the LNR of the West Coast of Australia before a team from the Crassic Pacific Papific Papific Pacific League, which has to join 2028 and have a competition of 19 teams. The league ambition is a format at 20 teams.
