Maggie Smith’s Latest ‘Heartwarming’ Film, The Miracle Club, Leaves Netflix Next Month
The legendary Maggie Smith passed away just over a year ago, and if you’re missing the recent Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale yet again, you might want to check out her final performance in the film The Miracle Club.
The 2023 film stars Smith, Laura Linney, Kathy Bates and Agnes O’Casey as four women who form a musical group and win the prize of a pilgrimage to the sacred city of Lourdes. On their journey, they face old hurts, grief, and other messy emotions.
The film is available to stream now on Netflix for subscribers, but not for long. The streaming site lists the last day to watch the film as follows: Monday November 10.
At the time of writing, the film is not available as part of any other streaming subscription, but it can be purchased or rented digitally, or purchased on DVD or Blu-ray.
The Miracle Club has a solid but unspectacular 68% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes from 116 reviews.

ScreenRant called the film an “endearing and heartwarming comedy-drama” that “beautifully celebrates the idea that friendship and compassion can heal.”
The Telegraph cited Smith’s “withered” but “wounded” look as “one of the two secret weapons of this sweet, lightly comic Irish period piece about fading intergenerational blues: the other is a sincere, deeply felt performance from Laura Linney, whose verbal exchanges with Smith are its undoubted strengths.”

The New Statesman called Smith’s performance “incredibly wonderful”, while The Australian called the ensemble “impeccable”. However, RogerEbert.com said that Bates’ accent was “a little uneven”.
In a negative review, The Independent felt that the film “was made to appeal to American rather than Irish tastes” due to its “sentimental and superficial” nature.
The Miracle Club is available to stream on Netflix for a limited time, while Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale can already be purchased or rented digitally, as well as showing in select theaters.
