Madonna begs Pope Leo to go to the Gaza ravaged war to “bring your light to children before it was too late”. In a message on social networks published on Monday, the Pop icon added that the pontiff was “the only one of us not to be denied entry” in Gaza, adding that “there is no more time” because the territory suffers from what the World Health Organization called the man of “mass famine”.
The singer, who was raised Roman Catholic, said the plea was motivated by the birthday of her son Rocco. “I think the best gift I can offer him as a mother – is to ask everyone to do what they can to save innocent children caught in the cross -fires in Gaza,” wrote Madonna.
Madonna added: “I don’t point my fingers, I blame myself or do not take a party. Everyone suffers. I just try to do what I can to prevent these children from starving. ”
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Agency, tweeted last week that “more than 18,000 children were killed in Gaza in the last 22 months”. And that “in Gaza, on average 28 children per day – the size of a classroom – were killed”.
In a Tweeting Madonna Tweeting post, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the president of the World Health Organization, thanked Madonna for speaking. “Thank you, @madonna, for your compassion, your solidarity and your commitment to take care of all the taking in the #Gaza crisis, in particular children. This is very necessary. Humanity and peace must prevail,” wrote Ghebreyesus.
Since it became pontiff in May, Pope Leo has continuously called for a ceasefire in Gaza, has called the return of the hostages held there and have criticized the bombing of the territory by Israel. “I am very worrying about the disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the civilian population suffers from serious hunger and remains exposed to violence and death. I renew my sincere attraction for a cease-fire, the release of hostages and full respect for humanitarian law,” said the Pope in July.
Madonna is the last eminent figure in the music world to express themselves for the Palestinians in Gaza. On Sunday, the four members of the Irish rock group U2 published individual statements on the worsening of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the need for action.
