Macclesfield confirm striker McLeod dies after car crash

Macclesfield has paid tribute to Ethan McLeod, highlighting his “lust for life and infectious personality” after confirming the 21-year-old was killed in a car crash last night.

McLeod was returning from the Silkmen’s 2-1 National League North win at Bedford Town when his Mercedes hit a metal side barrier on the M1. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A club statement read: “With the heaviest of hearts and an overwhelming sense of surrealism, Macclesfield FC can confirm the death of 21-year-old striker Ethan McLeod.

“While returning from Bedford Town last night, Ethan was involved in a car accident on the M1 which tragically cost him his life.

“Ethan was an incredibly talented and well-respected member of our first team who had his whole life ahead of him.

“But more than that, Ethan’s infectious personality endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.

“Giving his all in everything he did, Ethan effortlessly pushed us all to be the best we could be – on and off the field.

“Ethan’s professionalism and unwavering work ethic inspired everyone, and his lust for life put a smile on all our faces, even on the darkest days.”

McLeod a Wolves academy product

McLeod, who was an unused substitute against Bedford, joined Macclesfield in July after attending Wolves’ academy and spending short spells at Alvechurch, Rushall Athletic and Stourbridge.

The striker made seven appearances for Macclesfield, scoring three goals.

The statement continued: “The news of Ethan’s passing has devastated our entire club and no words can express the immense sense of sadness and loss we are feeling at this time.

“The deep mental scars left by Ethan’s passing will undoubtedly never heal – but one thing is certain: Ethan’s vibrant legacy will never fade, no matter how much time passes into the future.

“Ethan will forever live in our hearts and minds and no matter what the future holds, his unique smile that mesmerized us all will never be forgotten.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to Ethan’s family and friends at this deeply traumatic time, as well as reassurance that we will provide as much support as possible to those who need it.

“May you rest in peace Ethan – you will forever be a man of silk. »
