Lucy Lawless returns to Spartacus in House of Ashur music video

Lucy Lawless has scheduled her surprise return to Spartacus franchise in a new clip from its upcoming sequel series, Spartacus: House of Assur. The next Spartacus: House of Assur tells a reimagined version of Ashur’s fate from the original series. This forces him to ally himself with Crassus, which presents him with a host of new challenges.
NOW, Deadline released a clip of Spartacus: House of Assur which sees Lawless return as Lucreita in the spinoff series. The clip reveals her confronting Ashur in the Underworld after his death in Spartacus season 2. While holding Ilithyia’s baby, she tells Ashur that she is putting him on a new life path, confirming that she is the catalyst for the spin-off.

From the clip, it seems that the gods found favor in him and so he is not killed by Naevia at the top of Vesuvius. The return of Lawless explains the new timeline, while also confirming that the series will follow the same Ashur from the original series. This justifies how the spinoff happens while also providing the return of a major character.
In addition to the clip, creator Steven S. DeKnight explained the mindset that drove Lucreita to be the reason for Ashur’s resurrection in a new timeline. He called the scene of the Underworld “the impetus of the series,” while explaining what it was like working with Lawless again after so long. Check out what DeKnight said below:
Yes, the entrance was through Lucy as Lucretia, who went over that cliff with the baby she stole from Ilithyia. We can start in the Underworld when Ashur has just died, and Lucretia is there and says, “You know, there are many paths. Your death on Vesuvius was one, and would you like to see another? Would you like to live another life and see what would have happened and what kind of man you would have become?” That’s really what motivated the series.
She’s a pro, you know? This is Lucy Lawless. I still pinch myself thinking that I got to work with her the first time. I’m such a fan. And yes, she came back. She was fantastic. She and Nick have always had a great working relationship. I think anyone else except Lucy Lawless as Lucretia just wouldn’t have felt right. It was just a perfect way to start a new series and tip our hat to the original.
Lucretia from Lawless was last seen in the season 2 finale of Spartacuswhere she jumped off a cliff with Ilithyia’s baby in tow, her final act after being abused by Ashur for so long. His time on Spartacus was memorable due to his manipulative tactics for power and his subsequent tragic end, making him a complex and compelling character.
She will now join the cast of Spartacus: House of Assur to lay the groundwork for how the main character’s new timeline unfolds. The series also appears to lean more into the supernatural with the music video reveal. While it’s unclear whether Lucretia will return beyond this scene, her presence will undoubtedly be felt throughout the series.
With the configuration for Spartacus: House of Assur revealed, it remains to be seen whether Lucretia’s actions are a gift or a punishment for the main character. All that is certain is that with Ashur now in a new position of power in a different timeline, he could make a name for himself in a way that defies the history previously afforded him.
Spartacus: House of Assur premieres with two episodes on Friday, December 5 on Starz.
