Love Is Blind Season 9 Finale Explained, No Wedding, Interview with Creator Chris Coelen

This article contains major character or plot details.
After five years, nine seasons, many happy couples, and even a few children, love is blind is less an experiment than a proven hypothesis: yes, singles can in fact, they date through a wall and end up finding their forever soulmate.
Heading into the Season 9 finale, the three remaining engaged couples — Ali and Anton, Kalybriah and Edmond, and Megan and Jordan — seemed ready to join the ranks of the former newlyweds who came before them. However, before the episode ends, only two make it to the altar – and, in a series’ first time, the season ends without anyone getting married.
Thus, a season of love is blind without any marriage call into question the very foundation of the now global franchise? For series creator Chris Coelen, no “yes” poses any problem. “Whether they succeed or fail, trying is the most enjoyable and important part for me,” he told Tudum. In fact, according to him, the choices made in the finale speak to the beating heart of what love is blind that’s all.
Now that Season 9 is over, what do you think of the fan response? People have very strong feelings about the Denver pod team!
I love our fans and I love their passion, and I also have strong feelings for the Denver pod team. I love that over the course of a season, my feelings (and those of the fans) will move in different directions and that our production team, as well as so many viewers, will take away different things from watching the same scenes in the same season. It’s really fun to see.

This is the first time that a season of love is blind ended without either couple getting married. What was your reaction during filming to the result?
Honestly, I’m surprised this is the first season where no one gets married. Although we always encourage our participants to find a lifelong commitment – because that’s what they all say they come for love is blind because, more importantly, we encourage them to make the decisions they believe are right for themselves. And I think that’s what happened here.
How do you think fans will react to the end of the season? What do you hope they take away from it?
I hope they feel that the couples have found themselves in the right place and that they appreciate the courage and vulnerability of our participants, who tell their stories in the hope of finding something incredible.

There are obviously many love is blind couples who are still together today. And yet, every season we wonder if the dating experience still works. Do you think this season’s result confirms or complicates this idea?
The experience is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever had the chance to be a part of, personally or professionally, and it’s amazing. Remember, the experiment is an experiment and it aims to test two main questions: First, is it possible to fall in love with someone based solely on who they are? And second, if you fall in love and get engaged, is that love strong enough to overcome the obstacles of the real, material world? In season 9, at least one member of each couple felt that their love was not strong enough to overcome real-world challenges and chose not to marry. This is exactly how the experience is supposed to work, so I would say that not only does the experience work, I think it works better than ever.
As the series progressed, did you notice any changes among the singles themselves? Are they less or more encouraged to go to the altar and make a lifelong commitment?
Everyone is different, but there is no shortage of people who want to make a lifelong commitment, and love is blind is an incredible opportunity to seek out a partner in a truly unique way that continues to focus on what most people think is most important: who you are inside.

What would you say to someone who leaves this season doubting whether the experiment will still work heading into season 10? Any teases you can share about what’s to come?
Like I said, the experience works better than ever. I think we will see many happy couples continuing to come out of the love is blind experience in the future, who have fallen in love with who they are. We will also see couples decide that their love is not enough. Whatever the outcome, the journeys along the way, which reflect our society and some of the extraordinary people who inhabit it, will continue to be by turns joyful, frustrating and awe-inspiring – in a word, human.
