Love Actually actor who competed in Eurovision

Every year, like clockwork, Love in fact returns to TV screens as part of the Christmas routine.

The film is a modern festive classic, with audiences revisiting its star-studded cast and familiar storylines every December.

What many viewers may not realize is that among these actors is a former Eurovision Song Contest performer.

It’s actually Eurovision

One of the film’s most memorable storylines centers around the Portuguese woman who becomes the love interest of Colin Firth’s character.

The relationship unfolds across language barriers, handwritten index cards and a trip to Portugal, and has become one of the film’s most talked about arcs.

This character, Aurélia, was played by the Portuguese actress and singer Lúcia Moniz.

Before appearing in Love Actually, Moniz had already represented Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest.

She participated in Eurovision 1996 in Oslo with the song My heart has no color.

The entry finished in sixth place, which at the time was Portugal’s best result in the competition.

This will remain the country’s best performance at Eurovision until Portugal achieves its first victory in 2017.

Life after Eurovision and Love Actually

After Eurovision and his appearance in international cinema, Moniz continued to balance music and theater in Portugal.

She has released several albums and appeared in film, television and theater.

Although international audiences mainly associate him with Love Actually, his participation in Eurovision remains a defining moment in his career in his country.

She even returned to the national final of Portugal Festival da Canção in 2021 to perform its entry on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the song.
