London Critics’ Circle Film Awards 2026 nominations announced

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” appears to be the film to beat in the 46th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Award.

Echoing recent Golden Globe nominations, the political and satirical thriller has nine nominations in total from the UK’s leading screenwriters and film broadcasters, followed closely by Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean tragedy “Hamnet” with eight. Both films were nominated for Movie of the Year and Director of the Year, with their leads, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jessie Buckley, also nominated for Actor of the Year and Actress of the Year, respectively.

Elsewhere, Ryan Coogler’s Deep South horror film “Sinners” was nominated in seven categories, including film of the year. Other films with multiple nominations include “Marty Supreme,” with six nominations, “Sorry, Baby” with five (including four for first-time writer-director-star Eva Victor), and Oliver Laxe’s “Sirāt,” Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” and Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind” with four each.

“At a time when AI and homogeneity seem to be the quick answer to everything, it’s encouraging to see that the films our members voted for are bursting with human life, creativity and unique perspectives,” said Jane Crowther, chair of the London Critics’ Circle film section. “Boasting bold, vital stories, real-life experiences and artistry, these films and their creative teams are proof that not everything can be done by an algorithm. LFCC is thrilled to invite such a diverse group of artists to our awards this February to celebrate their achievements.”

The London Critics’ Circle Film Awards will take place on February 1 at London’s May Fair, with renowned critic Mark Kermode as host.
