Liza Colón-Zayas, John Leguizamo, Benjamin Bratt and more were among the winners of the 40th Imagen Awards, which celebrates Latin talent through cinema, television and streaming.
Celebrating the most recognizable artists, directors and writers of Latinos in Hollywood, this year’s event awarded stellar performances and contributions in 27 categories. Notable winners include Barbie Ferreira, Fede álvarez, Sofia Carson and Sasha Calle, with recognized projects comprising Bob Trevino likes this, Alien: Romulus, on fast horses, the last of us And Acapulco.
The Prix of the President of Imagen was given to the composer and musical director of international renown of Los Angeles Philharmonic Gustavo Dudamel, in recognition of his musical contributions and his role in the inspiration of the young Los Angeles orchestra. Created in 2007, Yola provides free instruments, musical training and academic support for students aged 6 to 18 from low -income communities.
Writer, producer and showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez – Better known for her work on Ugly Betty, The Glades, South Queen And more recently as an executive producer and co-showrunner of the successful legal drama of Netflix Lincoln’s lawyer – Received the Norman Lear Writer’s Award of the organization, appointed in honor of the legendary television producer and co-founder of Imagen.
The program of the evening should be broadcast on PBS during the month of Hispanic heritage on Wednesday October 1 at 9 p.m. PT.
Created in 1985 from a Lear suggestion to encourage and recognize positive representations of Latinos in the media, the award ceremony has since expanded via the Imagen Foundation and initiatives to continue its mission in access, education and resources to the Latinos in the entertainment industry.
