Liverpool now lines up Red Bull talent Yan Diomandé
Liverpool have now joined the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Yan Diomande, with Jurgen Klopp a big admirer, but there could be competition for his signature from Real Madrid.
The Reds managed to get their season back on track last week, following a 2-0 win over Aston Villa by beating Real Madrid 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring the only goal.
The Argentine midfielder believes his team made full use of their victory: “He [Courtois] is a fantastic goalkeeper, as we all know. He made a few saves. I think he’s a very good goalkeeper, but today I think we were better and we deserved to win.”
Having picked up two wins and two clean sheets on the bounce, Arne Slot’s side will now hope to hunt down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, but that could be a tall order, with Mikel Arteta’s men currently seven points clear.
The Merseysiders have discovered the hard way that it is difficult to compete with Real Madrid in the transfer market, even if you win the league title, with the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer, but they could now be prepared to fight for a new striker.
Liverpool join the race to sign Yan Diomandé
According to a report from The Boot Room, Liverpool have now joined the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Diomande, with Klopp a big admirer as Red Bull’s head of global football believes they have signed one of the best young wingers in world football.
All of the Premier League’s traditional ‘big six’ are keeping tabs on the Leipzig ace, alongside some big clubs across Europe including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Journalist Graeme Bailey adds: “He’s really special, I’m told Red Bull think he could be their biggest hope since Erling Haaland. Leipzig say there’s no release clause, and he’s already being talked about in the £88m category.”
Despite his age, the 18-year-old has already started to make an impact for club and country at senior level, scoring two goals and three assists in nine Bundesliga matches this season, while finding the back of the net twice in two matches for Ivory Coast.
Not only does the teenager have a keen eye for goal, but he is also a fantastic dribbler, as evidenced by the fact that he ranks in the top 1% in completions and progressive runs per 90 over the past year, compared to his positional peers.
As such, Diomande could be a future star, so it is promising news that Liverpool are in the race for his signature, but Trent’s move to Real Madrid has proven that the Spanish club are very difficult to turn down, so their interest will be a concern.
