Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott looks set to leave his loan spell at Aston Villa due to limited playing time.

As Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday, Elliott is attracting interest from MLS club Charlotte FC, but it appears that is currently not a move he would be happy with.

Elliott has struggled to make an impact for Villa since being loaned to Unai Emery’s side earlier this season, playing just three Premier League matches and making just five appearances in total in all competitions.

However, having represented Liverpool and Villa in the same season, a move to MLS could have been a good solution as the rules would prohibit him from representing another European team.

It appears, however, that Elliot himself is not currently in favor of a move to Charlotte FC, according to a new update from Romano…

It may make sense that the 22-year-old feels it would be a step backwards to move to the United States now, but it also puts him in a tricky situation to find a club that can give him regular playing time in the second half of the season.

Liverpool surely won’t find much room for Elliott at the moment, so it might have been beneficial for them to find another loan suitor to free him from their responsibilities for a few more months.

We imagine LFC will be frustrated that Villa have not made more use of Elliott, who surely seemed like a good fit for Emery’s side.

However, it just hasn’t worked out for the England Under-21 international, so there doesn’t seem to be any point in him staying longer only to waste more time on the bench.

Elliott was considered a true prodigy when he first left Fulham at Anfield as a teenager, but his career has stalled since then, so his next move could be hugely important for him.
