Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni faces months with a crossed ligament torn in his left knee, according to Sky in Italy.
The central rear suffered the injury by getting his debut in Liverpool during the Carabao Cup victory last night against Southampton.
Leoni was extended in the 78th minute with his left left knee, having impressed his first appearance since his signing of Parma in summer for 26 million pounds sterling.
Head coach Arne Slot said full time that the 18-year-old was “broken down, because for him, it did not feel well immediately”.
“This is something now that we have to assess and normally these things do not happen in five to 10 minutes, you have to wait until tomorrow to see how he enters, then maybe make an MRI to find out more,” said Slot.
“Hopefully the best.”

The news is a blow for the slot machine that has only Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as recognized central fristers.

“The graduate of the Liverpool Academy, Rhys Williams, who was loaned to the two Morecambe league in the first season of Slot, was an unused replacement on the bench against Southampton and could be another option to the central defender.”
