Liverpool would now be the clear favorites to seal the transfer of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, while Real Madrid appear to be out of the race.
The England international is nearing the end of his contract with Palace, making him a free agent in time for next summer’s transfer window.
As previously indicated for Caught OffsideLiverpool remain confident in signing Guehi even after missing out on him this summer.
It appears Guehi’s situation hasn’t changed much, with AS reporting that the Reds remain the most likely next destination for him despite interest from other clubs.
The Spanish media outlet states that a move to Real Madrid now seems virtually impossible due to the player’s salary demands, even if he had interested Los Blancos.
Marc Guehi on his way to Liverpool on a free transfer?
One imagines we could still see more twists and turns in this saga, but overall it seems Guehi is still focused on Liverpool as his next club.
LFC came so close to signing the 25-year-old this summer until Palace canceled the deal late on, but it looks like he will still get his wish of a move to Anfield.
AS also mentions Bayern Munich, so it will be interesting to see if they can still hijack the deal at some point in the coming months.

Marc Guéhi to replace Ibrahima Konaté?
AS mention Real Madrid’s interest in other centre-backs, and one of them is Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate – another player in the final months of his contract.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool could still persuade Konate to sign a new contract, but if he ends up leaving for free then replacing him with another free agent in Guehi seems like an ideal deal.
Konate has been a key player for Liverpool, but Guehi is an equally talented talent with a proven track record in the Premier League, so he could ensure the Frenchman is not missed.
