Live updates: Trump announces air strikes on nuclear sites in Iran while the conflict between the second week
Karen and Omri Mamon, double American-Israeli citizens, went to Israel last month to attend the Wedding of Omri’s sister. They did not think that they would spend their time after moving from one house to another, in search of a shelter.
A week after marriage, Israel launched its attack on Iran. Most flights from Ben Gurion airport have been canceled, leaving many stranded and unable to go home.
“The first night, we went down to the refuge three times, and since then, we just jump between the houses trying to find safe rooms. We are trying to find a way to get out of Israel in Florida since then,” Omri Mamon told CNN.
Mamon said they had already lived in Israel and have known to get sheltered, “but this time is different.”
Mamons said their main priority was to ensure that their son, who has autism, at home. “He had a very difficult time here with the sirens, the noises, the shelters and a lot of screaming people,” said Karen Mamon.
Dozens of Americans who tried to leave Israel gathered in a hotel in the center of Israel today, where the consular staff of the American Embassy began to deal with its departures.
Earlier in the week, the United States ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee announced on social networks that the embassy organized evacuation flights and ships for American citizens wishing to leave. Huckabee did not say when the evacuation efforts would begin.
Several Americans of the hotel told CNN that the embassy had organized flights to Athens, and from there they could take flights to the United States. It was not clear, however, when these flights were planned.
