Jim Carrey to star in live-action film THE JETSONS from director Colin Trevorrow

A live-action feature film based on the classic Hanna-Barbera animated series, The Jetsonsis officially moving forward at Warner Bros., and the film already has a director and star attached.
According to several commercial sources, Jurassic World: Domination director Colin Trevorrow is in talks to direct and write the screenplay with Joe Epstein. Jim Carrey (Sonic the Hedgehog, The Mask) is in negotiations to play the lead role (George Jetson, presumably).
Carrey, who plays Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog films, has already said that he is seriously considering retiring from acting.
“Well, I’m retiring… Probably. I’m pretty serious, yeah,” he said at the time. “It depends on whether the angels bring some sort of script written in gold ink that says this is going to be really important for people to see. I could go on down the road, but I’m taking a break. I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas. I really like my spiritual life and I feel like…and it’s something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as there is time: ‘I’ve had enough. I’ve done enough. I’ve had enough.”
“You can’t be specific about these things” he would say it later ComicBook.com. “I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about a rest from power. Because as soon as a good idea comes to you, or a group of people you really enjoy working with, things tend to change.”
The original animated sitcom focused on George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, the dog Astro and the robot Rosie, and their adventures in space-age-style Orbit City. There have been several attempts at adaptation The Jetsons for the big screen in the past, including a 2003 version that was to be directed by Adam Shankman, a 2007 live-action/CGI version by Robert Rodriguez. In 2017, ABC ordered a pilot for a live-action series from executive producer Robert Zemeckis, but it was not picked up.
In a 2011 interview, producer Denise Di Novi explained why the Rodriguez version fell apart.
“Honestly, it wasn’t a mainstream studio version. It was kind of his version of what he was shooting at his studio in Texas. He’s got a great setup there, and I think part of that is ‘it might be fun to play with all these big toys at the studio,’ but he’s got a pretty good system in place.”
“Part of the reason is that every two years the genre changes,” she continued. “I really thank Jeff Robinov at Warner Bros. for that. By casting Chris Nolan to do Batman, he really blew up the expectations for adapting all these types of titles, the pressure is on to really make them the coolest movies, not the cornball cartoon movies. Every couple of years, what they thought the movie should be and hopefully now we’re releasing it at the right time. I’ve never given up on that movie. “
What do you think of this news? Any interest in real action Jetsons movie?
