List of most centuries in FT tests. Joe Root

Joe Root continued with his exemplary form in test matches, and won his 39th ton of test, third in the Ind VS Eng series.

On Sunday, Joe Root showed why he is the best Test batter of this generation. With his ton, not only he powered England to a historic 3-1 series win against India, but also made sure he climbed up the ladder, in the list of most Test tons. He now has 39 to his name, as he surpassed Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara, who ended his stellar career with 38.

Joe Root Gets 39th Test Ton

This also means, he is fourth in the list of most tons in Tests, behind Sachin Tendulkar, (51), Jacques Kallis (45), and Ricky Ponting (41). Meanwhile, this happened to be Rot’s third against India in the five-match series, that was completely dominated by the batters.

Batsman 100s Runs Avg Ducks
Sachin Tendulkar 51 15921 53.78 14
Jacques Kallis 45 13289 55.37 16
Ricky Ponting 41 13378 51.85 17
Joe Root 39 13536 57.40 13
Kumar Sangakkara 38 12400 51.46 11

Fourth in List of Most Test Tons

That is not it, Joe Root became the first batsman in the WTC, to amass 6000 runs. He has been leaps and bounds ahead of the other batters, with the next one being Australia’s Steve Smith, with 4278 runs. Interestingly, none of the Indian batters feature in the list, with Rishabh Pant being the best placed at 11th spot, with 2731 runs.

If one talks about the tons in the WTC, ever since its inception in 2019, Root has scored 21 tons, once again the most by any batter. The next on the list is Steve Smith again, with 13 to his name. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have nine each for India.
