Lionel Messi to visit Kolkata, Mumbai in December

As per Moneycontrol.com, Lionel Messi will tour India from December 13-15 2025. The World Cup winning captain will host a number of football-centric activities during his visit. A football clinic, is also in the works. While it is not finalised yet, the Barcelona legend could be accompanied by a few of his former teammates and friends. Messi currently plays for Inter Miami, and long time friends Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul are rumoured to join him.

Speaking to Boria Majumdar, Sports promoter Satadru Datta revealed the details of the same. Datta is the man behind the event and hopes to give all football fans in India a glimpse of the greatest player in history.

“Yes it is now all confirmed and I wanted to do it for the football fans as a gift on Independence Day. Messi will be in four cities, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad and the idea is to give as many football fans the opportunity to experience what he is all about,” Datta told moneycontrol.com

No repeat of Bengaluru: Messi’s team particular on security

The report states that Messi is expected to make an official announcement of the same on September 1 through his social media. Tickets for the event will go on sale shortly after. With Messi popularity and India’s sport loving fan base, the event will face its challenges. A recent example is the stampede in Bengaluru, which saw 11 killed outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium celebrating RCB’s win.

“Messi’s team was very particular about security and not just his security but for every fan who will come and attend the events. He doesn’t want a single fan who comes to go back unhappy or go back with an unpleasant memory. Each event will be in a stadium in Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai and we will have adequate provisions for fans to buy tickets,” Datta added.

Among the rumoured events, Messi is expected to meet with India Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad. A cricket match featuring several legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is also reportedly in the works. A clarity on the same is expected in the coming weeks. Nonetheless, it is an exciting time to be a fan of Lionel Messi in India.
