Liberation: Blackhawks sign a one -year contract with Matt Grzelcyk

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that the team had entered into an agreement with defender Matt Grzelcyk for a one-year contract covering the 2025-2026 season (salary ceiling of $ 1,000,000).

Grzelcyk, 31, participated in the 82 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2024-25 campaign, displaying career summits for assists (39), points (40), digital advantage points (15) and blocked shots (101). He ranked second among the defenders of the team for points and assists, while his 39 assists earned him third among all the skaters of the team. In addition, Grzelcyk led the Penguins with 101 blocked shots. He patinated in his 500th Career in the NHL on February 4 against New Jersey.

Originally from Charlestown, Massachusetts, Grzelcyk scored 175 points (26 goals, 149 assists) in 527 regular season games in the NHL divided between Boston Bruins and Penguins. He also participated in seven times in the STANLEY Cup qualifying series, collecting 14 points (5B, 9A) in 66 career playoffs. He helped Bruins reach the Stanley Cup final in 2019, collecting eight points (4B, 4A) in 20 games.

The 5 -foot defender 10 inches and 180 pounds was initially selected by the Bruins in the third round (85th total) of the 2012 NHL recovery.
