5 things to know about rare observations of penguin emperor
Orlando, Florida – the largest and, no doubt, the most emblematic Penguin species in the world made their debut at Seaworld Orlando.
- SeaWorld Orlando welcomed 16 emperors. Orlando’s theme park is now the only place where you can see this species in the Western hemisphere.
- The emperors have come from Seaworld San Diego – considered as leading global efforts in the Emperor’s care and breeding since the early 1980s.
- Originally from the hard and frozen landscape of Antarctica, the Emperors penguins are built for life on ice. They are known to dive deeper than all other species of birds.
- SeaWorld Orlando has improved its existing Antarctic domain to meet the precise environmental needs of the emperors, which means that the temperature of the habitat is 28 degrees. “On a really hot day, to be here for 5 to 10 minutes, it does so much good,” said SeaWorld Orlando president Jon Peterson during a backstage.
- Here is another fun fact on the Emperor penguins. The males incubate a single egg at the top of their feet under a brooding patch. The male fasts also during incubation, losing up to 45% of its body weight. Park customers can now find new penguins in the attractive attraction of Seaworld.
