Lions beat Cowboys to stay in contention

The Detroit Lions kept their NFL playoff hopes alive with a dominating 44-30 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Jahmyr Gibbs had three touchdowns for the Lions, while quarterback Jared Goff completed 25 of 34 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown.

Detroit, which had lost three of its previous six games, improved to 8-5 and is third in the NFC North. They still need a winning streak to get into the playoffs, but are well-positioned to contend in the final weeks of the regular campaign.

“That’s as hot a team as there is in this league,” Goff said.

“It felt like we were back to who we are. Maybe we can be now.”

The Cowboys had won three in a row, but a sixth loss of the campaign leaves their season in trouble.

Gibbs brought his career touchdown total to 47 – and moved with Barry Sanders for the most in NFL history for a player before his 24th birthday.

“The work has been there all week. It always is, but the intensity, the urgency… guys don’t panic. They just go to work and they’ve done it again,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said.
