LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY Reveals Its Titular Monster in First Poster and Creepy Images

Following reports that The Mummy by Lee Cronin-which would have changed its title to The ResurrectedAfter disastrous test screenings, Blumhouse and Warner Bros. have finally removed the lid from the sarcophagus to officially reveal the upcoming horror film.

A poster and first two photos were released today (via FearHQ.com), and it’s clear that The evil dead rise the filmmaker does not make a traditional film Mummy film (it’s also worth noting that several trusted insiders disputed negative test screening reports).

Speaking to IGN, Cronin said that “The film itself is really a mystery and it’s a puzzle box,” adding that this take is “coming from a very different place, and it’s not even a reinvention of the mummy lore; it’s about exploring darker places and doing something different with what we think we already know.”

“It’s an insane mix to come up with, but [this film is] almost part Poltergeist and part Seven, but through my lens and the way I like to entertain people, ” Cronin went on to say “the horror of the servant” is a big attraction, as shown “people brought together and torn apart by something horrible happening to their world.”

It was recently revealed that The Mummy tells the story of a journalist’s young daughter who disappears without a trace in the desert. The broken family is stunned when the girl suddenly reappears eight years later. But what should have been a joyful reunion quickly turns into a real nightmare.

“I am attracted by the fear of others” the filmmaker noted, “which, when we go back to the first [1932 Boris Karloff] film, this idea of something that exists in the world that is not quite what it seems. I think it was probably more appealing than a fantasy monster actually.”

“We all have a frame of reference for perhaps why the great and good or the rich and famous were mummified in those days. But what about the processes and purposes of mummification that we haven’t heard about? I’ll go looking for things that maybe we don’t know enough about, or I’ll take inspiration from something. [that’s] a little bit left unsaid, then get really creative with it,” »concludes Cronin.

It certainly seems like he has a unique approach in mind for The Mummywith a greater focus on the process of mummification and the horror that comes from such an act rather than a traditional “mummy” serving as the main threat or villain.

We didn’t expect the first trailer to be released until tomorrow; instead, it arrived earlier than expected and can be viewed here.

The Mummy by Lee Cronin features a cast led by Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace and Veronica Falcón. It is scheduled to hit theaters on April 17, later this year.
