Still hoping for a white Christmas in Augusta? Instead, highs in the 70s

Anyone in the Augusta area hoping for a white Christmas might be feeling the Christmas blues. Temperatures in the CSRA will likely reach the 70s on Christmas Day, with mostly clear and sunny skies to follow.
“We had a cold front yesterday, so it remains dry,” Drew Hickok, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina, said Monday. “It’ll be a little cooler, like yesterday. We’ve been pretty warm, with temperatures in the 60s. Today we’ll probably be closer to the 50s, maybe close to 60.
Temperatures will remain cool early in the week, but will reach highs in the mid-70s by Wednesday and likely continue through the weekend, Hickok noted.
“As we move into the rest of the week, particularly Christmas Day on Thursday, skies will be mostly sunny,” he said. “The main trend will be warming temperatures. … For reference, the normal temperature on Christmas Day is around 60 degrees, so it will be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than a typical day in late December. It will be much warmer than you would actually expect, even here on Christmas.”
