Former Liverpool defender Jones died at 70

Former Liverpool defender and Wales Joey Jones died at the age of 70.

Jones played 100 times for Liverpool between 1975 and 1978, winning two European Cups, a UEFA Cup and a League title.

The rear left also obtained 72 selections for Wales, starting and ending his career in Wrexham after spells in Anfield, Chelsea and Huddersfield.

The former teammate of Jones, Mickey Thomas, published on X: “This morning, I lost my best friend and my sister, Sir Joey our memories never fade – today my heart is broken. I love you Sir Joey Rip. My condolences are with Janice and the whole family. “

Jones’ contribution to Liverpool was immortalized in the Swiss Roll banner, now that he climbed Gladbach, the fans revealed during the final victory of the 1977 European Cup on Borussia Monchengladbach.

The banner referred to the victories on St Etienne and Zurich in the neighborhood and the semi-finals.

With Wrexham, Jones won the Welsh Cup and helped the club reach the FA Cup quarter -finals in 1974.
