‘Hamilton’ Hits New High of $4 Million

Hamilton earned more than $4 million last week, marking the highest gross the musical has achieved in its ten years on Broadway.

Notably, the $4.042 million total comes outside of the holiday season, when shows typically see their highest and slightly best grossing. HamiltonThe previous high of $4.041 million, set in 2018 during Christmas week. This total comes as Leslie Odom Jr. continues to reprise the role of Aaron Burr, which he originated, and the average ticket price has increased from $348 to $376.

The fall season on Broadway is also gaining momentum as several productions began previews last week, increasing the industry total by 25 percent.

Among the new features, Little Bear Ridge Road, which marks Scott Rudin’s return to Broadway production, played its first eight previews last week and got off to a slow start with 83 percent capacity and a total of $371,635 at the Booth Theater. The play, which stars Laurie Metcalf and Micah Stock, is scheduled to open October 30.

Beetle juice returned to Broadway last week and grossed $1.16 million in its first seven performances at the Palace Theater. The musical comes to Broadway as part of a tour, marking its third run here in recent years, and as such it avoids the traditional preview process. The show began performances and opened on October 8.

Queen of Versailles, starring Kristin Chenoweth as the reality TV star who hopes to build her dream house, grossed a hefty $775,752 in its first four previews at the Palace Theater, with an average ticket price of $131.59 and playing to 100% capacity.

After Hamilton, the most profitable shows were Wicked with 2.5 million dollars, The Lion King with 2.3 million dollars, Waiting for Godotwith Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, with $1.8 million and Art, with James Corden, Neil Patrick Harris and Bobby Cannavale for $1.76 million.
