Large name, no game – the five biggest Flops of IPL 2025

It was a fascinating 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a lot of drama, on and off the field. The tournament resumed on May 17 after a 10 -day interruption due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. Although the season has witnessed memorable performances, there were some great players who were not up to their reputation and failed miserably this year. From Rishabh Pant to Glenn Maxwell to Jake Fraser -McGurk, from Mohammed Shami to Rachin Ravira – we look at five stars who have not completely sparkled in this edition.
1. Glenn Maxwell (Punjab Kings)
Glenn Maxwell’s IPL stock took a big blow and continued to steal for a second successive season after the Australian superstar T20 could only bring together 48 points in six rounds at a typical rate of 97.95 before a finger injury took it out of the tournament. Maxwell recorded four scores to a figure and looked at the sea against the spinners this season – he scored only 30 points out of 29 deliveries being rejected 5 times by 6 times by slower quasses.
Maxwell also achieved a horrible race in IPL 2024, marking only 52 points in nine rounds with a ridiculous average of 5.77 for the Bengaluru Royals. A change of franchise has not changed the fortune of the Australian versatile.
2. Rishabh Pant (super giants from Lucknow)
Rishabh Pant was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for a huge inr 27 crore making him the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions! The LSG skipper, however, did not delivered and was a patch of the T20 striker that it was between 2017-2019 – his peak in IPL. Pant managed to score only 128 points in 11 games at a shocking strike rate of 99.22 – It is the lowest striking rate among the 67 strikers who have scored a minimum of 100 points in the season!
Pant recorded 6 scores to a figure this season while also failing in two other outings. He produced a single substantial blow (63 out of 49 balls) – this also in a losing cause against Chennai Super Kings. The slowness rate of Pant has exerted enormous pressure on the LSG intermediate order and is one of the main reasons for their reversal of fortune after a start to the season.
3. Mohammed Shami (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Mohammed Shami was a large IPL and one of the most prolific carriers of the last five editions of the tournament. In fact, Shami was the largest IPL flacked holder between 2019 and 2023 and won a total of 106 counters in 75 outlets at a sensational strike rate of 16.2 during these five seasons.
Shami’s dramatic decline in IPL 2025 was one of the main reasons for the poor performance of its new franchise – Sunrisers Hyderabad – last season’s finalists. The Indian Pacer veteran has just chosen 6 counters in 9 games at an average of 56.17 in the competition while being very expensive – Shami was affected in the park and has a saving rate of 11.23 points by more. The stimulator was so on the word that he was abandoned from the SRH playing XI for a few games.
4. Jake Fraser-McGurk (Capitals Delhi)
Jake Fraser McGurk was one of the brilliant lights of the revolutionary IPL season last year when he exploded 330 points in nine rounds at a surprising striking rate of 234.04 – it was the highest strike rate of the tournament among all the strikers who scored a minimum of 100 points!
However, cricket is a large level and Fraser-McGurk learned that the hard way in IPL 2025. It gathered only 55 points in six rounds at a typing rate of 105.76 for Delhi’s capital before falling from the XI. Interestingly, the young Australian sensation fought against rhythm this season with rapid quasses representing five of its six layoffs.
5. Rachin Raviund (Chennai Super Kings)
IPL 2025 was supposed to be the big season of breakthrough for Rachin Ravira – the T20 striker. Unfortunately, the star of New Zealand should wait a little longer after a disappointing season with the bat for Chennai Super Kings. Ravira has achieved a total of 191 points in 8 rounds with a score of more than fifty years to his credit. With the exception of his 65 unbeaten coverage of 45 deliveries during the CSK opening meeting against the Mumbai Indians in Chepauk, the left -handed had nothing to write at home.
Ravira has had chess in four rounds while not converting its departures into important scores in three others. Interestingly, Ravira has had its troubles against Pace this season, 107 points out of 87 balls at an average of 21.4 and a strike rate of 123 against fast quisors.
