Large elephant seal found wood along a South African street

Cape Town, South Africa – A large elephant seal took a bad turn and was seen struggling along a street in a coastal city in South Africa on Tuesday, surprising residents and inspiring a rescue effort to bring it back to sea.

The seal of two tonnes, which, according to an animal well-being group, was a young man, made his way through a suburb of Gordon bay near the CAP.

The inhabitants left houses and recorded videos.

“It’s unreal. Hi, my brother, how did you get here?” asked for a woman.

Police and a local security company tried to contain the seal by parking patrol cars around it. He put his huge head on the hood of a car and half-chamber on another before slipping freely, crossing a road and continuing a sidewalk.

The seal finally stopped next to a shopping center. The managers of animal welfare feared that it was too far from the ocean to find its way and could become exhausted and dehydrated. They estimated that he weighed about two tonnes. Elephant seals can reach this size twice.

A team of marine fauna specialists and a city veterinarian put on sedation and guided it in an animal transport trailer to be returned to its natural habitat in a neighboring bay.

The local Cap of Bood Hope Spca then published a video on the social networks of the seal by going down a beach and to the ocean.

“Sea You Tarker,” said the video.
