Lake Travis defeats Westlake 31-10

Luke McBride threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns, Van Hopping rushed for 151 yards and a score and also had a receiving touchdown and the Lake Travis defense recorded 10 sacks as the Cavs beat Westlake for the first time since 2019 with a 31-10 victory at Chaparral Stadium.
Lake Travis (8-0, 4-0 District 26-6A) held Westlake to fewer than 9 yards rushing and fewer than 250 yards of total offense, while constantly putting pressure on Chaps quarterback Rees Wise.

Westin Smith caught five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns for the Cavs, who led 13-7 at halftime after Hopping scored on a 20-yard run and 18-yard reception.
McBride connected with Smith on strikes of 38 and 48 yards in the third quarter.
Wise finished with 239 yards and a touchdown pass to lead Westlake (6-2, 3-1).

On the final play of the game, Lake Travis sacked Westlake quarterback Rees Wise for the 10th time. Lake Travis improves to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in District 26-6A. Only Akins and Austin High stand between the Cavs and a perfect regular season.

Westlake forces a Lake Travis punt, but the outcome of this game has already been decided. The Cavs will win for the first time since 2019 and will do so in dominant fashion.

Lake Travis running back Vann Hopping ran for 136 yards and a touchdown and had an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Westlake, which created two turnovers, punted on its first five possessions before scoring on its final drive. The Chaps had less than 100 yards of offense, but the turnovers they produced kept them in the game.
Chaps quarterback Rees Wise has 79 yards and a touchdown pass.

Westlake responds by driving 77 yards in 1:18 as Rees Wise connects with Braden Riddell on a 13-yard TD pass. An extra point is a good thing.

After forcing a three-and-out, which included his third sack of Westlake quarterback Rees Wise on third down, the Cavs got the ball back at their 44 and drove. Lake Travis has a second and one at Westlake 18.
One play after Lake Travis converted a fourth-and-6, Westlake’s Pasquale Maurici forced and recovered a fumble. The Chaps defense creates its second turnover and Westlake takes over with its 25.

The Cavs have another set of downs at the Westlake 38 after running the ball effectively.

Vann Hopping sprints 20 yards up the middle untouched for the first TD of the game. The extra point is good to give the Cavs a 7-0 lead.

The defenses dominated the first quarter. Lake Travis faced a third-and-15 to start the second quarter.
