County of San Bernardino, California (vvng.com) – A rapidly evolving forest fire nicknamed the “Lake Fire” broke out on Saturday afternoon on June 28, 2025, around 3:50 p.m., near the Silverwood Lake region, causing evacuations and an aggressive response from several firefighters.
According to an update of surveillance, the fire was initially estimated at 5 acres with a rapid spread rate, driven by the southern winds. It quickly increased to 10 to 15 acres and started burning on both sides of the 138 motorway with the potential to extend to 500 to 1,000 acres.

A second alarm was requested because the fire showed what civil servants described as a “dangerous propagation rate” in clear grass and heavy brush. The command of the incident requested assistance from the police to evacuate the region of Lake Silverwood and recommended to close the roads on motorway 173 and highway 138.

According to a notification of active incidents of the fire protection district of the county of San Bernardino, the units on the premises included BC141, BDFE340R, ME25 and ME306, with additional support on the road of more than a dozen devices including forest engines and command staff.
Photos and videos of shared witnesses on social media show thick smoke that swings in the sky, visible from the whole region of Victor Valley. In an article on Facebook, a user who identified himself as Silverwood Lake said: “I have just been evacuated to Silver Lake”, alongside images of beach rockets evacuating while smoke is looming on the hills.
The first reports indicate that there have been unconfirmed reports of people trapped in a campsite nearly 14299 Cleghorn Road, with several calls for helping emergency stakeholders.
In addition, the County Fire Service of San Bernardino reported signs of a second possible fire in the Oro Grande region, where smoke was also visible.
It is a story in development. More information will be provided as it will be available.
