Lake effect snow warning for parts of WNY

Snow could be heavy at times until Monday morning, mainly towards the south.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Lake snow has moved south and will remain mostly east of the lake through Saturday evening, with heavy snow at times. Next, we’ll see more lake snow east and southeast of the lake on Sunday.

A Snow warning with lake effect is in effect for southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties until 7 a.m. Monday. 4 to 7 inches of snow is likely, with 8 to 12 inches possible under the deepest snow bands over the highest terrain, primarily east of Lake Erie.

Snow will also come with wind gusts of 30 to 35 mph, causing blowing snow and snow drifts. Travel in this area can sometimes be very difficult due to snowy roads and poor visibility.

A Weather Impact Alert was issued for southern areas over the weekend in areas of lake effect snow.
