Krishnappa Gowtham retires from all cricket formats

Krishnappa Gowtham called time on his career, retiring from all forms of cricket after a 14-year professional career. Gowtham played domestic cricket, the IPL, and also made a short international appearance for India.

Gowtham made his first-class debut in the 2012 Ranji Trophy against Uttar Pradesh. He immediately impressed by dismissing Suresh Raina and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in his very first match.

Domestic career

The 2016-17 Ranji season was a game changer for him. Gowtham took 27 wickets in just eight matches and established himself as an all-rounder. He then showed another side of his game by scoring his maiden first-class century against Assam. He has proven that he can make an impact with both the bat and the ball.

Gowtham has taken over 320 wickets in first-class and List A matches and has also scored important runs in the lower order. He was a key player for Karnataka until 2023, and subsequently contributed to domestic cricket even when he left the state.

His performances earned him several India A caps. He played against New Zealand A, West Indies A, Australia A and the England Lions. In 2021, he was selected for India’s tour of Sri Lanka and made his only international appearance in a T20I in Colombo, where he took one wicket.

Gowtham in the Cricket League

In the IPL, Gowtham has played for Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. In 2021, Chennai Super Kings signed him for INR 9.25 crores, the highest fee of his career.

One of the most notable moments of his T20 career came during the 2019 Karnataka Premier League. Playing for Bellary Tuskers, Gowtham scored 134 off 56 balls, including 13 sixes, after reaching his century in just 39 deliveries.

He then finished the match with an extraordinary bowling spell, conceding only 15 runs and taking eight wickets in four overs.
