Noem: travelers without real identifier can fly for the moment, but with probable additional steps

Washington – Travelers who have not obtained a real identity document on the deadline for this week received insurance from the Head of Homeland Security that they will be able to steal after additional identity checks. But that did not prevent long lines of people in certain government offices trying to obtain the identity card.
Kristi Noem told a conference panel that 81% of travelers already had IDs that meet the real identification requirements. She said the security checkpoints will also accept passports and tribal identification when the deadline has reached Wednesday.
Those who still lack an identification in accordance with the real identification law “can be diverted to another line, have an additional step,” said Noem.
“But people will be allowed to fly,” she said. “We will make sure that it is as transparent as possible.”
Throughout the country, the offices of the Ministry of Engine Vehicles have extended their hours to help meet demand. But despite this, some people waited for hours on Tuesday to get a real identity document before the long -standing deadline.
Renel Leggett, a student from West Chester, Pennsylvania, spent hours getting her real identity card and was not satisfied with it.
“I have been here for three hours to get an identity document when I had one that should have lasted me until 2029 around 2029,” said Leggett.
“You have to do it. But it looks like a waste of time,” she said.
Real ID is a license or an identity card issued by the state in accordance with the federal government which, according to Homeland Security, is a safer form of identification. It was a recommendation from the Commission on September 11 and was signed in 2005.
The Commission has recommended that the government establish safety standards for driving licenses and IDS issued by the State. It was supposed to be deployed in 2008. But the implementation was delayed several times.
In addition to needing a real identity document to fly at the national level, people will also need it to access certain federal buildings and installations.
In recent weeks, Noem has warned the American public of the deadline to come. In a television announcement published by Homeland Security, she warned that these identifiers were necessary for plane trips and to enter public buildings, adding: “These identifiers keep our country safe.”
A real driver’s license consistent with ID has a symbol (in most states, a star) in the upper corner of the map.
In California, around 58% of all driving licenses and identity card holders have a real identity document. The state has extended the hours of certain offices of the Ministry of Engine vehicles until June 27 to help more people obtain the identification required by the federal government. Officials also remind residents that if they already have a valid American passport, they can use it and wait to switch to a real identifier when their identifier or driving license must be renewed.
Lucas Krump went to San Francisco on Tuesday on Newark’s affairs, New Jersey, and said he was using a passport to pass security.
“I have no license that is a real identity card,” he said. “I question the bureaucracy that surrounds it.
At the Jackson driving services office, Mississippi, there were no long lines on Tuesday, and people obtained their real IDs fairly quickly.
Marion Henderson said before she got there that she planned to go to California, Michigan, Chicago and New York this year and wanted to be prepared.
“Even if I have my license, now that it is necessary, I wanted to go ahead and do it” before the deadline, “said Henderson.
