Need more speed? Kingston has just introduced the Fury Renegade G5 SSD, a super fast NVME PCIe 5.0 reader designed for players, video editors and software developers.
Equipped with a modern PCIe Gen 5×4 controller and a NAND TLC 3D, the SSD Fury Renegade G5 has sequential reading speeds of 14800 MB / s and writing speeds of 14,000 MB / s (it’s more than 14 gigabytes per second). The random reading speeds are 2200 200 IOPS, and the reader has a DDR4 DRAM cache, which means that file recovery must be incredibly fast, even when working with large media databases or active games.
The reader is also fairly economical in power. It consumes a maximum of 6.6 to 9.5 watts under load, depending on the training capacity. Kingston suggests that this electrical efficiency will result in an improvement in thermal performance, although it does not provide any data to check this assertion. In all cases, the reader is assessed for extremely high endurance – Kingston says you can expect between 1PB TBW from model 1 TB and 4PB TBW from the 4TB unit. High endure is ideal for players, although I suppose it will mainly appeal to media professionals, software development or AI.

All well considered, the SSD Fury Renegade G5 is in its own class. The closest comparison is Samsung’s SSD 9100 Pro, which corresponds to the reading speed of the Kingston but does not lack writing speed (Samsung also has a slightly higher TBW than Kingston, although the difference is negligible).
As for whether this reader will provide real performance gains – well, the short answer is “no, unless you have a advanced platform”. If you stick the Fury Renegade G5 in a PCIe Gen 4 location, you will get PCIe Gen 4 speeds. And even if you have a compatible system, your CPU can have a bottleneck in tasks that require a lot of treatment, such as games.
So, if you cannot afford an insane PC platform “End Game”, jump the G5 Fury Renegade and buy a good PCIe Gen 4 player instead. You will save a lot of money in the process.
