Kiernan Shipka’s Halloween Essentials Include Horror Movies, Candy, and Sleep Before a Costume Party

To celebrate the spooky season of 2025, the actress opened up to ET about exactly how she gets in the mood.

“My Halloween must-dos include watching and re-watching a long list of horror movies, going to a haunted house or two, eating candy, and attending a few parties on the big night. …I always love dressing up and I love decorations,” she shared.

When it comes to her look, Shipka likes to make the evening unforgettable with a creative outfit.

“Good drinks, good music and engaging costumes make it a great party,” she said.

“Sometimes my costume is planned and sometimes it’s last minute. … Usually the idea comes to me at a random time, and I write it down to remind myself when Halloween is coming up,” she added.

This time? “I have a costume ready and it’s very hair and makeup focused.”

However, before the celebrations, the star makes sure she is well rested and without fear of insomnia.

Shipka teamed up with Hatch for their strange new campaign trailer, Good night phonewhich reminds everyone to unplug before bed.

“Good sleep is very important. When I don’t get enough, I really feel it. I remind myself that I want to feel excited and present during a big event, so getting a good night’s sleep beforehand is non-negotiable,” she said.

To ensure a restful evening, the Chicago, Illinois native relies on a few simple nighttime essentials.

“Before bed, I usually have some sort of snack. I like to review my day and make a to-do list for the next one, then I’ll go ahead and do my skincare and have some magnesium gum.”

She then activates Hatch’s Restore Sleep Clock to start her wind-down routine, complete with soothing sounds and relaxing lights.
