Kevin CostnerThe name is synonymous with western. Let it be his race Taylor Sheridanthe hit series, Yellow stoneor his work in a number of feature films like Dances with Wolves or his misfortune Horizon: an American saga franchise, the man loves good old rootin-tootin westerns. Although he’s won awards for his efforts in the genre, there’s one film from the early years of his career that didn’t quite make the impact he and the rest of the team were hoping for. The functionality in question is none other than Wyatt Earpthe 1994 biographical saga directed by Laurent Kasdan which saw Costner take on the role of the titular gunslinger. While it may not be the box office success Warner Bros. hoped for, those who haven’t seen it will soon have the opportunity to do so, and at no extra cost to them, when the film gallops onto Tubi on November 1st.
Lasting over three hours, when you sit down to watch Wyatt Earpyou’d better have snacks and cold drinks by your side. With Costner, Gene Hackman, Bill Pullman, Dennis Quaid, Isabelle Rossellini, Mark Harmon, Michael Madsen, Tom Sizemoreand more, the film follows the early years of Wyatt Earp’s life as one of the most legendary lawmen in Western history and delves into his involvement in the famous OK Corral shootout.
The film may have been a bigger success than it was George P. Costamatos didn’t beat Kasdan to the draw a year earlier with his beloved and notable genre film, Tombstone. Featured Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott And Bill Paxtonthe film also focused on the infamous shootout at OK Corral, manufacturing Wyatt Earp remains cold. On Rotten Tomatoes, there is a clear winner between the two westerns, as Wyatt Earp gets a 31% review score against TombstoneThis is much more favorable 76%.
