The Kentucky 2025 derby in Churchill Downs will be there before you know, so it’s time to start thinking about your outfit and how you will try to make money.
Here is everything you need to know about the race for roses in 2025:
The first Kentucky Derby race took place in 1875 when Aristides crossed the finish line first in Churchill Downs.
The official time of the Kentucky Derby post office is at 7:02 p.m. on Saturday May 3. The 151st race for the roses will be race No. 12 of the slate at 14 hours.
The Kentucky Oaks, the 3 -year -old filler race will take place on Friday May 2. The official official hour of Kentucky Oaks is at 5:51 p.m.

Tickets with only access to the field for Kentucky Derby are $ 105 and $ 160 for a two -day package for Kentucky OAKS 2025 and Kentucky Derby 2025. Tickets can be bought on kentuckyderby.com.
The length of the Kentucky Derby race is a mile and a quarter, or 10 stadiums. Horses generally do around the track in just over two minutes, with the 1973 rhythm of the secretariat of 1: 59.40 always the best time of all time.
A Furlong is a race term which refers to an eighth in Mile.
The twin turns are one of the most emblematic characteristics of Churchill Downs and made their debut in 1895 with the 21st Kentucky Derby. The turns celebrate their 130th anniversary in 2025 and appear prominently in the official Kentucky Derby 151 logo.
The race is open to a 20 -year -old field that qualified through the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” points system by Churchill Downs, which was implemented for the first time for the 2013 race.
A horse is only eligible in Kentucky Derby once, because only 3-year-old thoroughbreds are invited.
Bob Baffert and Ben Jones are currently tied with six Kentucky Derby victories each. Buffer’s had seven horses crossing the finish line first, but her victory in 2021 with Medina Spirit was disqualified after the horse was deemed positive for betamethasone. Although the drug is legal as therapeutic help for horses, it is illegal when found in the blood on the day of the race, because it is considered a possible performance activator.

There are three main types of bets, including choosing – win, place and show.
Here is what every bet means:
- EARN – If your horse ends first, you win.
- PLACE – If your horse ends first or second, you win.
- TO SHOW – If your horse ends first, second or third, you win.
Payments depend on several factors, including the amount of money in the swimming pool and the chances.
There are also more involved bets with even higher payments, such as Exacta – predicting that will end the first and second; Trifecta – predicting that will finish the first, the second and third; and Superfecta – predict that will end in the first four positions.
