Katie Boulter: British no 2 made 12 consecutive victories in Nottingham Open with Victory against Sonay Kartal | Tennis news

Katie Boulter stayed on the CAP for a third consecutive title of Nottingham Open by beating Sonay Kartal in a fully British confrontation on Thursday.

British No 2 Boulter fought a breakdown in the third set to win a 6-4 1-6 7-5 roller coaster match in two hours and 26 minutes.

Boulter, who was replaced this week as British number by Emma Raducanu, won her title of first WTA Tour title in Nottingham two years ago and supported it last summer.

She dragged 4-2 overall decisive and had to save a break point to avoid taking a double break behind, the eighth seeded struggling in the heat and consulting the doctor.

“I have so much respect for Sonay, she is such a difficult competitor and I also know that she will not give me anything at any time,” said Boulter.

“I know she will surpass me at some point, she has the game for that, she has her head. I will have to face this fact.

“But at the very end, I just wanted to tighten my teeth as hard as possible and surpass myself. I am really satisfied with myself today. It was not easy, that’s for sure.

“I feel like I am getting home when I come to this court. I have such great vibrations here, but the heat killed me today.

“I’m really correct British because I can’t manage the heat at all. I’m just happy to have exceeded the line.”

The next step for Boulter is a quarter -finals against American McCartney Kesslerwho ran before Lin Zhu with a 6-1 6-4 victory.

Meanwhile, the British teenager Mimi Xu released in the second round 7-5 6-1 despite an animated performance against the world No. 31 Magda Linette.

The 17-year-old, who will make her debut in Wimbledon later this month after receiving a Joker, won her first WTA Tour match in the first round before passing a biology exam on Wednesday.

Fearnley provides the French lesson in Moutet

British no 2 Jacob Fearnley reached a first quarter-final ATP level at ATP level in Queen’s, beating the Volatile qualification Coretin Moutet 6-3 2-6 6-2 at the HSBC championships.

Carlos Alcaraz came by a marathon meeting while he was beating his Spanish compatriot Jaume Munar 6-4 6-7 (7-9) 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.

The French Open champion needed three hours and 26 minutes to overcome his compatriot in the hot afternoon heat in western London.

“There were times when I had mentally and physically harmful,” said Alcaraz. “I just continued to fight. I guess I did not give up.
