Kathy Bates broke a record with his appointment to Matlock Emmy Emmy

35 years after Kathy Bates rubbed the Oscar conventions by winning a prize for the best actress for a horror film, she now holds the standards at the Emmys. During the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards this year, Bates was nominated for its main role in “Matlock”, a legal dramatic series which vaguely appeared as a flexible version of 1986 of the 1986 television program of the same name. There is a plot Differences between the series, but the representation of Matty by Bates grathes an itch similar to Ben Matlock by Andy Griffith.
Bates has not won his Emmy this year; The prize of the exceptional main actress in a dramatic series has rather gone to Britt Lower for her role as Helly and Helena in season 2 of “Severance”. However, Bates made the story simply nominated: as the variety pointed out last week, at 77, it is now the “nominated at the oldest Emmy in the category of the exceptional dramatic actress”.
Bates took the file of previous actresses like Angela Lansbury (who was nominated at 71 for her role in “Murder, she wrote” in 1996) and Cicely Tyson (who was nominated at 71 for “Sweet Justice” in 1995).
What does Kathy Bates think of breaking this Emmy record?
Not only has Bates set a new record, but “Matlock” has already been renewed for a second season which will be presented in October. If the second season is as well received as the first, there is a decent chance that Bates could break his own record in 2026.
“I love it,” Bates to Variety told when told about his record statistics. “It is true, first of all, and it is a badge of honor. It’s just the serendipity of all this.”
Bates was particularly happy with appointment because her role as “Matlock” came at a time when she thought that her acting career was over. The good leading roles are more difficult to find for the elderly in Hollywood, but especially for women, which can be the reason why Bates said that it was “almost ready to hang up” before the first season of “Matlock” arrived. Now, she not only proves that she is still able to provide a fascinating performance equally with her previous roles, but that there is indeed a solid audience for television programs centered on older women.
Perhaps its biggest pride is to follow the “Matlock” production calendar. It is a network television program with around 20 episodes each season published on an annual basis coherent, which means that the professional life of Bates is undoubtedly more demanding than what the youngest actors working on streaming shows (with their only 6 to 8 seasons of episode) must bear.
“Her endurance and her ability to stand at the center of a demanding network program, it’s incredible,” said the creator of “Matlock” Jennie Snyder about Bates. “We go to deep depths.”
