Karlovy Vary Film Festival to show new films by Josh O’Connor, Andrea Riseborough

The next film by Josh O’Connor “Rebuilding” will be screened as part of the Karlovy International Film Festival Vary 2025 as well as multiple worldwide, Kviff organizers announced on Tuesday.

The festival announced 11 films in its Crystal Globe Competition section, but added that the section will include a 12th film from Iran. The artistic director Karel Osh said in a statement that the announcement of this final functionality was postponed until the festival was put into consideration for “the security of its creators”.

“Rebuilding”, which makes its first international at the festival, plunges us into the life of a breeder (O’Connor) whose ranch has been destroyed in a forest fire and must now collect the pieces of his life. It is written and directed by Max Walker-Silverman, who previously made his debut with the delicate drama “A Love Song” in 2022. “Rebuilding” was previously presented to this year film Film Festival and should be released in theaters later this year.

The Karlovy International Film Festival Vary began in 1946 and is now considered the first film festival in central and eastern Europe. This year’s edition, which takes place from July 4 to 12, is the 59th Kviff and will mark the first year since the death of the president and actor of the Jiří Bartoška festival, who died in early May after playing in the role since 1994.

Previously, the festival announced that it would present a tribute to the actor of the 1940s, John Garfield, by projecting eight of his films, of which “The Postman still sounds twice”, “Body and Soul”, “Force of Evil”, “They made me a criminal” and “Four girls”, for which he received an Oscar nomination.

He also announced that the editor -in -chief Jiří Brožek will receive the presidential prize for an exceptional contribution to the Czech cinema, and that the comedy of Czech director Jaroslav Papousek in 1969 “ECCE Hommo Homolka” will have a first of its new digital restoration.

Additional winners and programs will be announced in the coming weeks.
