Kagiso Rabada caught sleeping in South Africa dugout as Marco Janco Jansen shakes up India in Guwahati

South Africa’s young all-rounder Marco Jansen produced the innings of his life while his senior teammate Kagiso Rabada was spotted casually sleeping in the dugout during the second day of the ongoing second and final Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The second day of the second Test in Guwahati belonged entirely to South Africa, and it was all-rounder Marco Jansen who stole the show with his extraordinary innings against India. Coming in at No. 9, Jansen didn’t seem bothered at all by the Indian bowling attack.

The right-handed batter also struck partnerships in the lower order: 97 runs with centurion Senuran Muthusamy, 31 runs with Simon Harmer and another 27 runs with Keshav Maharaj. His aggressive and confident hitting helped push South Africa to a massive first innings score of 489 against India in the ongoing final Test in Guwahati.
Marco Jansen achieves rare milestones in Guwahati
With his remarkable innings, Marco Jansen also reached a special milestone. The 97-run knock was Jansen’s highest score in Test cricket. The Proteas all-rounder also becomes the player to hit the most sixes against India in a single innings, equaling Shahid Afridi’s record of hitting 7 sixes in 2006.
By hammering seven sixes in Guwahati, Jansen also equaled the South African record for the most sixes in a Test innings, joining legendary hitters AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock.
De Villiers first set the benchmark with seven sixes against Australia in Cape Town in 2009, while De Kock achieved the same feat against the West Indies in Gros Islet in 2021.
With this knock, the left-arm pacer took his Test tally to 624 runs at an average above 23. It was Marco’s second fifty against India.
Kagiso Rabada caught dozing as Marco Jansen hammers Indian bowlers
But as Jansen lit up the Barsapara Cricket Stadium with his blistering batting, Kagiso Rabada unwittingly became the star of a funny moment. Cameras captured Kagiso asleep in the South African dugout, resting peacefully as the match continued.

Even one of his teammates was trying to explain how Jansen was tormenting the Indian bowlers, but Rabada was sleeping so soundly that he didn’t hear anything and continued to sleep peacefully. Now, the clip of the moment has gone viral on social networks.

Kagiso Rabada withdraws from India tour
In fact, the Proteas fast bowler was ruled out of the Test due to a stress injury to his ribs, and with continued discomfort he was withdrawn from the rest of the tour. Notably, Rabada has not bowled since he was injured during practice last week in Kolkata, and he also skipped practice in Guwahati.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that Rabada will continue a “four-week rehabilitation program with the Proteas medical team before returning to South Africa at the end of the second Test”.
