JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Shares New Photos of Amber Heard as Mera and Henry Cavill as Superman

As Zack Snyder continues to share photos from his time at Warner Bros. DCEU on Instagram, these latest photos highlight Amber Heard as Y’Mera Xebella Challa, better known as Mera, and Henry Cavill as Superman.

Heard made her debut as an Atlantean warrior and love interest of Arthur Curry in Justice Leaguebefore taking up the role in Aquaman and more Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In Snyder’s extended version J.L.Mera appeared in the epilogue of “Knightmare” alongside Batman, Deathstroke, Cyborg, The Flash and The Joker.

In 2022, Heard claimed that Warner Bros. didn’t want her to come back for the Aquaman following at all.

Reports had indicated that the studio had concerns about the actress’ return due to what was seen as a “lack of chemistry” with lead Jason Momoa. Whether it’s true or not, Heard admitted that she had to fight “very hard to stay in the film.”

This was revealed during the ongoing defamation trial between Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp. When asked if she had been involved in filming the James Wan sequel, Heard replied: “They didn’t want to include me in the film” before adding that she now has “A very stripped down version of this role.”

“I was given a script” she continued. “Then with new versions of the script that took out the action scenes, which were my character and another character, without giving away any spoilers. Two characters fighting against each other. They basically took out a lot of my role. They just took out a lot of it.”

Heard ended up with a reduced role, although she had more screen time than expected, as rumors swirled that Mera was going to be killed off in the first act.

Snyder shared the photo of Cavill, taken during the filming of Man of Steel, to mark his 400,000 followers.

Should we read anything into Snyder’s sharing of these photos? Probably not. Although speculation has been fueled by the potential sale of Warner Bros. Discovery and recent developments regarding Comcast or Paramount reportedly obtaining financial support from Saudi Arabia, it is very unlikely that the “SnyderVerse” will return. Snyder, however, appears to be leaning into the renewed furor over these messages and has certainly done little to dissuade his supporters from continuing their campaign.

The fact is that Superman was a sufficient success for the WB to give the green light The man of tomorrowand there are many other DCU projects currently in various stages of development. Do you really think the studio is going to scrap an entire slate because a vocal minority of fans want Zack Snyder to direct Justice League 2?
